Full Professor at the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). He holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Wageningen University, the Netherlands, 2005), a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering/Environmental Sanitation (UFC, Brazil, 2001), a Specialization in Ecological Sanitation (Stockholm Environment Institute, Sweden, 2008), and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with Magna cum Laude distinction (UFC, Brazil, 1998). He is a CNPq Research Fellow – level 1B, with approximately 6,800 citations, h-index 39 and i10-index 99 on Google Scholar, h-index 34 on ResearchGate, and h-index 28 on Scopus. He has received several national and international awards, such as Elsevier, 7ISEBE, ANA, Finep, ABES/Cetrel, teaching mentorship recognition, and was honored as distinguished professor by the Civil and Environmental Engineering programs, among others. He has participated in and coordinated national and international research projects, with current highlights including: the Research Network on Emerging Technologies for Wastewater Treatment via Aerobic Granulation and Photobioreactors (TrataRe+, coordinator), the National Institute of Science and Technology on Sustainable Sewage Treatment Plants (INCT ETEs Sustentáveis, deputy coordinator), the Renewable Energy Research and Innovation Network of Ceará (Rede Verdes, member), and the Research Network for Monitoring Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria and Antimicrobial Resistance Genes in Sewage (ReViRAE, deputy coordinator). He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering (Elsevier) and the Journal of Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (ASCE), as well as editorial board member or ad hoc reviewer of leading journals in Sanitary and Environmental Engineering and for national and international funding agencies. His main fields of expertise include domestic and industrial wastewater treatment, bioenergy, environmental biotechnology, water reuse, resource recovery, solid waste management, environmental studies, sanitation management, and wastewater-based epidemiology. He has also been a consultant for public and private companies for nearly 25 years.
