Germán Buitrón Méndez

Graduated in Chemical Engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and a Master and Ph.D. in Water Treatment Engineering at the National Institute of Applied Sciences at Toulouse, France. Since 1994, he has worked at the Institute of Engineering – UNAM as a Senior Researcher and Professor of the Graduate Environmental Engineering program. In 2007, he founded the Laboratory of Advanced Processes for Water Treatment and the Academic Unit Juriquilla at the UNAM Querétaro Campus, where he currently works. The current research lines and interests are biological wastewater treatment; gaseous biofuels and value-added products from wastewater and organic wastes (methane, hydrogen, bioelectrochemical systems, biopolymers, medium chain carboxylic acids); microalgae-bacteria systems for wastewater treatment; biodegradation of inhibitory organic compounds present in industrial wastewaters.
