Sergio Francisco de Aquino

Full Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). PQ-1C Research Fellow of CNPq and leader of the Environmental Emerging Contaminants research group. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (UFV), a Master’s degree in Hydraulics and Sanitation (USP/EESC), and a PhD in Chemical Engineering (Imperial College London). He has served as a member of the Technical Chamber of Architecture and Engineering (CATEC) and on the Board of Trustees of FAPEMIG. He was Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at UFOP and faculty advisor of the Scale Up Junior Enterprise of the Industrial Chemistry program.

With extensive experience in Environmental Chemistry, he has dedicated his research to the removal of organic micropollutants from water, effluents, and waste, employing combined biological, chemical, and physical treatment processes, as well as to the use of anaerobic digestion for energy recovery from industrial wastes and effluents.

He is married to a wonderful wife, father of two lovely children, a supporter of Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, and enjoys brewing craft beer in his rare moments of free time.
