#DAAL XV: Contributing to the energy transition and decarbonization

The XV Latin American Workshop and Symposium on Anaerobic Digestion: Contributing to the energy transition and decarbonization, will take place in Fortaleza, Ceará, from October 14th to 17th, 2025. The main objective is to promote discussions on new scientific advances and challenges and technological processes related to the anaerobic treatment of solid and liquid waste, waste revaluation, energy transition and CO2 capture2energy recovery via methane or hydrogen, recovery of nutrients and fine chemicals, reuse of water and sludge, among other precious products, emphasizing their contribution to the circular economy, in addition to promoting the exchange of knowledge between academia, society, govern and the business sector.

The target audience for the event in question is expected to comprise undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers, professionals, managers, politicians, designers, development institutions, companies operating in the sanitation sector, industries, public and private companies, NGOs and international cooperation organizations interested and active in the area of anaerobic digestion, renewable energy, biomass, sewage treatment, solid waste, sludge, rational use of water, nutrients and energy, etc.

The preferred language of the event is English. Presentations should preferably be delivered in English, and all slides and posters must be prepared in English. However, simultaneous translation services (Portuguese/English/Portuguese) will be available for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as for keynote lectures and roundtable sessions.

Another important point is that general public access will be allowed for visiting the exhibitors’ booths. Access control will apply only to the auditoriums and other areas designated for the event’s technical and social programs.

SUBMISSIONS

General Information

If an abstract is accepted for oral, short oral, or poster presentation, at least one of the authors must register for the conference and present the work. However, each registration will allow the submission of a maximum of two presentations, regardless of the presentation format accepted after the review process. Additional works must be presented by other registered co-authors.

Abstracts approved in the first phase of evaluation, regardless of the presentation format (oral, short oral, or poster), must be developed into full papers with a maximum length of eight A4 pages, including figures, tables, and references. Only submissions that meet this length and formatting requirements will be included in the official conference proceedings.

Some full papers may be selected for publication in special issues of the journals Water Science & Technology (open access only) and Industrial Biotechnology (open access and subscription options available), and will be subject to each journal’s editorial review. Please note that acceptance of a paper for presentation at the conference, or its selection for journal consideration, does not guarantee final acceptance for publication.

Submission of abstracts

Abstracts must follow the model provided by the event at the link below. The maximum number of allowed authors is 10.
